A profession is not only a job

A profession is something that you learned and you are specialised in. In most cases it is an academic way of life. So you first do a general study in a subject like law, journalism, languages or sciences. After your diplom or exam you can do a master or a bachelor on top to have more knowledge in your subject and have more chances on the market. Also you have the possibility to promovate and have a doctortitel. In some studies like medicine it is even part of the general studies to write a dissertation. You write it in cooperation with your mentor who has to be a professor at a university. Depending on the subject it can take you three to five years. After your dissertation you can decide if you want to stay in the university to teach or to do research. Another possibilty is to go in the free economy. There you earn more money as in the university and mostly have more possibilities to do research.

A big number of journalist work as freelancer on the market. Also with general studies in economy you can work as freelancer and advisor of companies. The academic job has also a high prestige because of the challenge of the big business. Other elements are: a high degrees in professional organisation, personal and composion-and decisionfreedom in the acting as well as an own professionethik. The profession is limited against the job and to the avocation which should finance the livinghood in the long run. Earlier to the professions there only belong avocations like the doctor, lawyer and spiritual succour. Other avocations like consulting or social work are on the way of professionalisation.
