A company is usually run on the principle of spending as little money as it can, but if certain disputes occur at regular intervals to employ a lawyer may be a clever thing to do. The lawywer is at the side of his employer, he or she is familiar with all those fine details that a specific branch demands – and he is loyal. This is something that is extremely helpful and pleasant in times of trouble. And trouble has occurred in a number of companies lately!
Espionage, ex-employees “knicking” ideas, taking data with them on a small USB stick is one of the casualties today`s companies are confronted with. If someone leaves the company it is often not in a particularly good mood, so more and more cases are found where business data and highly political secrets may just leave through the door. The company lawyer is here to help exerting damage control, and with a vengeance. It is often a question of the company surviving that demands strict measures to be taken, applying the law to the full extent.
A company of course has its core competece, and a lawyer has his, reading and applying the law with his employer`s or client`s interests at the forefront. This is the base of cooperation and it often means quite a relief if the management takes the step to say, well, we need help, and fast. The law, legal aspects basically serve anyone, but usually the person who has the best lawyer will win. It is as simple as that, so one should not try to save money at the wrong end. Money spent on a competent lawyer is money spent wisely. A lot of money is usually at stake in disputes, and if it is X vs. Y everyone hopes to be able to win the case – and then get on with his business. But since it is clear that all kinds of disputes are bound to occur, internal disputes or competitors doing harm, a lawyer is indispensible.
